Well well well..I just wanted to tell you that in a few hours I’ll be boarding on the airplane and flying to Geneva, Switzerland. I am very excited to be able to participate in such a revolutionary global collaboration (obviously I mean CERN and the LHC experiments ). I’ll be working there from 27th of May till 8th of June on the Dashboard project.

The Dashboard project aims to provide a single entry point to the monitoring data collected from the distributed computing systems of the LHC virtual organisation. The Dashboard collects information from multiple sources and it covers various activities of the LHC experiments like job processing, data management, transfer tests, monitoring of the reconstruction at Tier-0, or monitoring of site efficiency. The Dashboard is currently working on different Grid flavours (OSG, LCG, gLite) and it is deployed for the four LHC experiments ATLAS, ALICE, CMS and LHCb. I’m so excited to see the whole infrastructure of CERN..

Fedora 9 is out!!! So what’s new in Fedora 9? Here’s a list with all the new features!

PackageKit

PackageKit is a cross-distribution package management solution that has a complete yum backend. It has been designed to make installing and updating software on your computer easier, and aims to unify all the graphical package management tools used in different distributions. To do this, PackageKit makes use of some of the latest technologies such as PolicyKit and D-Bus. It is the default graphical package manager in the Beta release, using the yum backend.

Finally it’s confirmed!!! I’m going to CERN, Geneva from 27th of May till 8th of June! I’m so bloody excited to see the LHC and the CMS experiment in person not to mention the whole infrastructure of CERN… this place is the holy grail of technology… Hurraaaaay!!!

1.)Go to virtualbox.org and get the VirtualBox package for Fedora 8 or 9 and install it.

2.)Get the kernel-devel package: sudo yum install make automake autoconf gcc kernel-devel

3.)Run the setup file for VirtualBox: sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

What is easyLife? It’s a simple program in bash script that automates the installation and configuration of external programmes (just like automatix for ubuntu). easyLife allows new and even experienced users to install and configure software on Fedora, just by mouse clicking. It’s simple and clean.

The liveusb-creator is a cross-platform tool for easily installing live operating systems on to USB flash drives. Version 2.0 was released yesterday, which brings us a brand new graphical interface and a bunch of new features, including:

• Persistent overlay creation. This lets you to allocate extra space on your USB stick, allowing you to save files and make modifications to your live operating system that will persist after you reboot. This essentially lets you carry your own personalized Fedora with you at all times
• Supports downloading various Fedora releases, including Fedora Previews and Release Candidates
• SHA1 checksum verification of known releases, to ensure that you’ve downloaded the correct bits
• Face-melting hotness
